Professional Chapters & Groups

In Alpha Chi Sigma, the alumni organization is called the Professional Branch. The Professional Branch includes all members of Alpha Chi Sigma who are not listed on the membership roll of a collegiate chapter.

The purpose and aims of the Professional Branch are identical to those of the Collegiate Branch and are centered around the Three Objects of the Fraternity. One of the principal activities of the Professional Branch is maintaining a close relationship between Alpha Chi Sigma and the collegiate chapters, where physical proximity makes such contact possible. The professional organization stands ready at all times to give help to the collegiate chapters, including counsel, advice and vocational guidance leading to the “attainment of their ambitions.”

In any geographic area, five or more Alpha Chi Sigma professionals may petition the Grand Recorder to establish themselves as a professional group. After the guidelines set up in the bylaws are fulfilled, the group can petition the Supreme Council to grant it chapter status. Each chapter draws its name from the city or area in which it exists.

Starting an Alpha Chi Sigma Professional Chapter

Starting new professional chapters is one of the many priorities of Alpha Chi Sigma. To gather and engage professional members across the country not only continues the success of the Fraternity, but also provides invaluable networking and friendship for professional chapter members.

PROCESS OF EXPANSION

1. BECOMING A PROFESSIONAL GROUP

Five or more professional members residing in the same locality and holding meetings may notify the Grand Recorder of their activities. The Grand Recorder is authorized to designate such a local organization as a professional group.

2. BECOMING A PROFESSIONAL CHAPTER

In order to petition for a charter to become a professional chapter, a group must have at least eight active professional members and have been designated as a professional group for at least six consecutive months. The group will work with their District Counselor through the process of petitioning the Supreme Council to be considered as a professional chapter. To become a chapter, the Supreme Council must approve with a majority vote, and will be issued a charter at their installation.

If you are interested in starting a professional group or chapter in your area, please contact the Professional Expansion Committee Chair.
